    "Impasses mean money."

but I have rebuilt a couple thousand automotive carbs.
    I see....
And I spent several years cleaning or rebuilding customer's carbs and have seen chunks of deteriorated fuel line, as well as particles of rust, wedge open float needles.
any junk that gets flushed through the needle is probably going to end up settling to the bottom of the bowl where it won't hurt anything,
Have also scraped out layers of sediment from the bottoms of float bowls. (just what do you think it is that sloshes around and plugs up pilot circuits?)

Screens take care of chunks and filters take care of sediment.
Sadly, most bikes don't have either.
(If they did... I probably would have spent most of my time doin' oil changes and fixin' flats.)

I have installed fuel filters also to aid in removing crap before they get in the carb itself.I want to spend time riding not repairing.

That, in conjunction with new, tygon(?) fuel lines will help prevent those tiny screens from clogging.
