    Tach repair

Does anyone have diagnostics for 1980 special tach? and are they repairable. I have gone through the generator, regulator diagnostics and it all checks out. Everything else is working. I switched tachs with my 79 Special and the suspect tach didn't work on either bike and the 79 tach worked on both.

I don't have the time to search, but if YOU do a search, I know there is a thread or two about tach repairs. If it cannot be repaired, ANY XS1100 SPECIAL tach will work. You should be able to find a replacement on ebay, at worst, or check with andreas and see if he has a replacement, the best choice.

      tachs

I've had the Standard type tach apart before to re-heat the solder joints. That cured the jumpy needle. They are difficult to take apart without destroying the trim ring, but it might be worth a look under there.
