  • powder coating forks

Ok DSXS, now you've done it. I get all fired up to get the forks powder coated and start taking them apart. Fluid, we don't need no stinking fluid, is everywhere (was going to change that anyway), I just thought I had drained it all (didn't realize how much fluid those springs hold). And everytime you bump/pump the fork a bit....out comes more through those drain holes (which provide great velocity by the way!)

Stripped one of the studs that holds the axle pinch cap (going to need one of those and a new nut).

Anyway, caps off, springs out....now how do you get the tubes and seals out? twisted the allen screw on the bottom and what ever is inside just spins........ and spins......... and spins.

    All assistance is appreciated.

Anyway, had asked in "details" thread if anyone had experience with home powder coating kits. would like feedback on whether this is a viable option or not. Thanks again.

Also was looking at ss brake lines on mikesxs but not sure about the rotated fitting business and all these parts are for 650's. Are some interchangeable?

home pc is ok but remember the learning curve. if you mess up it is a lot of stripping and clean up of the pc to do it again.

You can make a tool like this with a 3/4" bolt and 2 3/4" nuts. Slip it down the fork tube and turn it with a deep socket and long extension. The bolt head fits into the damping rod and'll keep it from spinning. Pry the seals out with a seal remover tool.

          bolt

Meant to say a 1/2" bolt with a 3/4" size head.
