I set it on fire!

It was a nice day today, so I decided a ride was in order. Apparently, a float valve stuck and the air box filled with fuel. It must have backfired as I attempted to start the bike as I had a very large scary fire almost immediately. Thankfully, my daughter was on hand and quickly retrieved a fire extinguisher.

A quick assessment says I need to replace my air box, (or at least, the bottom half) and the left side cover. The side cover and air box are deformed from the heat. It's entirely possible that there is no further damage. Yes, I will need to attend to the carburetors.

Is anyone here able to help me with a left side cove and air box? My bike is SG or '80 Special. The side cove emblem is damaged as well. I hate to see my bike with ugly on it.

I caught a GS750 on fire once trying to prime the carbs.The phoenix fire dept. had to put it out along with the garage I was renting.Got a stern talking to trom the fire mashall. Glad to hear yours didnt sound that bad.

put pods on, you can see the gas dripping out a lot sooner. I swear I'll never go back to the stock airbox so the one off my SG is yours for postage. I have washed the blood off it from my last knucklebusting fight to remove the accurséd thing to access the carbs.

I agree with fred on the pods,

Here is what I did to set up some of the el cheapo pod filters, which I got for about $5 each. The whole thing cost less than one K&N filter.

For the crank case vent you'll want to put a fuel filter or something on it to keep the gunk out. I used something like this.

Also, if you need a box, and for some reason Fred's doesn't work out, I have a few.
