  • Anyone ever tried this?

As I was looking at my 84 venture, I noticed the final drive looks to be the exact same as the XS, minus the shock mounting bolt. After some research, the gear ratio is the same as the stock XS11, so it looks like a match.

Now here's the fun part. The V MAX rear end will interchange with the Venture, so I am supposing that it will interchange with the XS. This would make the gears shorter than stock, a 3.67 from a 3.33. The 705 drive has a 2.9, in comparison.

Might be a good swap for a street fighter setup, but would probably limit the top end considerably.

    Any thoughts?

    Hi Ivan,
Neither the max wheel nor the venture wheel will fit the XS because of different offset...

      Dang Ivan...

Took Mat all of nine minutes to bludgeon that idea to death!?? lol.

Good thinking though. What came to mind for me was the 11's first gear. Not much of one in stock mode. If you made it even lower geared, just about time you pop the clutch, you'd need to shift! lol.

        Hi Mathh,
Ivan's talking about the final drive not the wheel. Will the Max rear drive bolt up to the XS or not? Us sidecarists could perhaps use a larger gear reduction than stock especially for easier pulling away from a stop. Nor do we give a hoot if the front & rear wheels are in line so long as the rear tire don't rub.

yup, see that now. Sorry.... I am pretty sure the final drives can be interchanged. Only thing to watch for is the distance between the front of the drive and the axle hole, must be the same as the Xs. Don't know if the shaft fits one on one, however.

Yeah, I was thinking that too, but the lower gear would squeeze the rest of the ratios closer together, making it a terror from light to light.

As for the shaft, I am fairly sure the XS shaft would fit in the coupler on a venture final drive, and probably the Vmax as well. I think it would have to be a 93 or older Vmax though.
