Do y'all think it would fit and work on an '81 XS1100 Special? If so would I have to do any thing other than mount it and connect it?

plug and play, Ben. That one caught my eye too, but I've already switched to a new 140mph speedo. Lost my self cancelling turn signals in the process though.

laxdad-Why did you lose your self cancel?Mine work fine with the 160 speedo.I had the 85 speedo before.Do the 140s not have the sensors?

Never did figure out quite why. Has something to do with that skinny little reed switch that's on the speedo unit. Not sure about the 160s.

What would y'all pay for this?

Flea bay has a way of driving the price up ...because others want it so what would you all pay for this? Also how hard is it to find one in this condition?

In case whoever buys this speedo (or any other Yamaha speedo, come to that) don't know this:- You can't put the instrument into it's outer case unless you first take the trip odometer zeroing knob off. It's held on by a LEFT hand thread so screw it on to screw it off. Mr Stupid didn't learn this until he'd wrecked one trying to pull the bastard straight off (car radio knobs are removed that way, right?)

Mine just slides in and out without taking the knob off. The 2 housings I have (1979 and 1980) have a notch in them from the factory, not a hole for the trip reset knob. Maybe other years are different.
