  • xj to xs

Ok I have a 82 xj 1100 and a 79 xs1100 my question is if I took all the body parts off of my xj and put the xs parts on it will it fit? I want to swap the forks, tree, fenders, tank, seat, guages, lights everything to where it looks just the 79 xs1100. I don't have the title to rebuild the xs but I have one for the xj but like the xs not the xj.

hey joey, I once found a old honda motorcycle that a tenant had left at one of my dads houses. I went to the DMV and asked then for a title, I told then how i got the bike. They told me who the owner was and told me to mail them a certified letter stating that I have there bike. and if they dont respond, in 15 days the letter will come back. So I did just that and the letter came back unopened. so I took the unopend letter to the DMV and showed them the letter and then they gave me a clear and clean FL title. 2 weeks later I sold the bike. Do you have a bill of sale for the bike or any type of documentation stating that you baught the bike? that way you can let the DMV know how you aquired it. just my thoughts:P

And??? Do you have any friends? You just need someone to say you bought it from them as-is with no title for $100. You might have them run a DMV check on it first to make sure it isn't reported stolen somewhere! lol.

As far as swapping opver parts.. you could eventually rig something up to work, but the frames are different. The tanks attach different... the sidecovers.. seat.. Everything is different. You should be able to find a parted out XS frame cheaply to do that with. AND.. as far as that goes.. you could simply ride the running XS and use the VIN numbers off of the clear frame. Yeah.. not legal.. but who is ever going to actually get in there around that steering neck to find it?

You can live to be 100, as long as you give up everything that would make you want to live to be 100!

So if im willing to weld in a new bracket for the tank, side cover, and seat it should work? Are they about the same height? length?

I don't know if they have vehicle safety inspections in FLA still, but when I get mine inspected here in VA., they DO look at the frame/Vin # to record it on the Safety Sticker and receipt!

Like Tod said, do a check on the VIN to make sure it's not listed as stolen, and either get a friend to make you a B.O.S., or you should be able to do like above and get the title cleared, a bit more of a hassle, but could be better than the hassle you "might" get from a constable later on!?

                    Hi Joey,
looks to me like your plan will bring you a world of grief because nothing is going to fit properly and unless you are really skilled and wealthy besides it'll take years to do the job.
I'd suggest you first make every effort to legitimize your XS1100 so all you have to do is ride the thing. If that totally and finally proves to be impossible, buy a titled XS1100 bare frame to bolt your parts onto.

Well I got everything switched over to the xj all I have to do is weld the post to hold the tank in and im good to go.I put the dual exhaust on the xj from the xs all I had to do is take my center stand off and it bolted right up hangers and all. Then I took the neck apart and put the forks from the xs on the xj it fit great I rewired all the guages in from the xs and the ignition switch everything works all I have to do is figure out why the brake lights don't work. Ohh I have to weld something in to hold the sidecovers on they fit the frame perfectly. With all the parts on you can't even tell it's a xj at all.
