  • Vetter fairing mount

Was wondering if anyone has the mount for a Vetter fairing that theydon't need.. It would be for a 78 standard. Mine is slightly bent and I am not sure that is really the correct one. It seems to mount lower than it should. The gauge cluster seems to be to high. I have access to Cyclesound unit, but it won't fit because the gauges are in the way. If nothing else could someone post some pictures of a correctly mounted Vetter fairing on a standard. Thanks

I don't think you can mount the cycle sound on a standard. When I had the vetter on my standard, there was NOT room for it. The vetter fit MOST of the bikes of the day, and the XS1100 was the largest at the time. The '78 had a great fairing built by Pacifico, with a STRONG mount system. I would see if you can find one, as in my mind they offer more protection and less wind resistance than the vetter.
If you want to fix the mount, you can. have a FLAT steel surface to work on, cut the welds so you can lay the mount surface flat once again, and re-weld the mounts.

Hello, Isaw a set of plans for a Vetter mount on the XS11 Yahoo group. Here is the link, http://f1.grp.yahoofs.com/v1/cGsXSVV...pt#257,4,Slide 4. You might can paste it in your address bar. If this doesn't work, PM me and I'll see if I can scan them for you. Also I have one that I have not mounted yet and can send you some pics of it if it will help. If you don't have welding capabilities let me know and maybe we can work something out if your not in a big hurry.

I have a cyclesound on my standard with a vetter fairing (windjammer III) or at least I did before I took it off because the radio doesn't work. I'll probably put it back on when I find a stereo I want to put into it.

I also have a windjammer ss that was taken off that also had the cyclesound unit on it, but the PO changed to the windjammer III which is black and painted the bike to match (not a happy thing in my mind).

But the operative thing is that the cyclesound WILL fit if the fairing is at the right height.

Craig Vetter's website has instructions on how to properly mount vetter fairings, and he covers both height and angle (IE. windshield should be at the same angle as the forks). I don't remember/didn't pay attention to height as I have the right mount, I will be however be paying attention because I have to make a mount so I can put my extra fairing on my XS400G.

I have a Windjammer V on my 78 Standard. I am currently using a Vetter Sound setup, so I don't know if it is the same dimensions as the Cycle Sound. I will snap pics tomorrow/today of the mount bracket, and if you want, I can measure the length and width of it.

FWIW, the Windjammer V uses a different stereo housing than the Windjammer II or III.

I see the problem. you have it mounted on a garbage can...

My 81 standard has a windjammer of some model.....with the factory Yamaha wiring plug/plate. It has the square headlight.

I have a cyclesound housing on it and everything fits with the guages intact.

Yes, that's the problem! I have to remove the fairing from the garbage can and install it on my xs1100sh.

That brings me to another problem, I have to build a mount for the bike. Any plans, drawings, templates, measurements, pictures, etc., would definitely help me move the fairing from the garbage can to the bike.

Here are some pics of the mount for an xs1100.

Is that the bracket you are looking for, or the one you have? The one I have on mine is similar, but does not have that angular bracket thing across the middle. Just a flat bar with 2 holes in it that line up with the holes in the front of the XS's frame down-tubes. The 1/2-tube pieces just rest on the front of the down-tubes, and get clamped on with hose clamps. I'm not sure of your horn configuration, but if you have the dual horns, they need to be both mounted inside the 2 front down-tubes to allow the fairing bracket to fit. They can't hang off the side like dumbo ears.

The pictures are from two different eBay sales (one ends Sep 01, 2010 17:44:45 PDT) as brackets for an xs1100.

If some other configuration of the bracket would work I would welcome any plans, drawings, templates, measurements, pictures, etc. that would get the fairing attached to my bike.

If the prices aren't too high, I'd go for that bracket on ebay. At least you know it was properly welded and not just thrown together. The design looks like it should work.
