swapping cylinder heads

Has anyone ever swapped cylinder heads between different years? I have an engine from a 79 standard. I want to rebuild the head and valve assy and then use that on my 80 special when I do the rings. Are there any major differences? I seem to remember that the valves were larger on the 79's?? Also valve clearances were larger? What effect would this have? Would I need to re-jet the carbs I wonder? The 79 carbs were larger I believe.
