Was having some trouble with the starter button not wanting to cooperate intermittantly this past week. Had to resort to bump starting until I had a chance to get into it a bit this weekend. I figured I 'd check to see what the battery looked like, and found 5/6 cells to have very low (dry, really) water levels. Topped them off, and figured that must have been the problem. Then I decided to check the voltage with the bike running to see how the charging system was working, and found it to be 18 volts!?! Does this mean my regulator is fried? What wil this do to the rest of the electrical? This is my only means of transportation, and repairs are an expense I can't manage right now. Pathetic, right?

Hey Mike/Pastor,
When the regulator goes bad, YES, it can generate 16-18 volts, and that's part of why it boils the battery dry! Geezer provides a better than OEM replacement, contact him, he might let you make payments, but send it to you so you can keep riding/going to work!?
I'm no electrical guru, don't know if there is a temporary way of sending the excess power to ground like the REG is supposed to until you can get a properly working one!?
