Canadian Tire carries a pretty good range of chargers.

This manual one is about as small as they come both in price and charging capacity. It would be all you need to use every few weeks to keep the charge up over winter.

Do a bit of googling for "battery tender" for a type of low-capacity charger that has is supposed to turn itself off when the battery has reached its charge level. They look like a good idea, but I'm sure I've heard reports of bad things when these units fail and they end up cooking a battery.

If I was buying another one, I would go for something a little bigger than either of these options that would have enough capacity to actually charge up a dead battery or do an initial charge on a new battery. Canadian Tire has a manual one or an automatic one

Places like NAPA and Lordco will also have lots of choice.

        try this

I was recommended the 11-1544-4 CTC minder type charger at 1.5 amps . Unfortunaltely it has been discontinued But there still are some on the shelves . My friend gets about 10 years out of a battery using this all winter . He checks the fluid level periodicaly .

          11-1544-4

I just checked my local CTC and they had 2 of 11-1544-4 charger left at $50 . This is half of what the proper charger is at a friendly bike shop . Any charger that charges more than 1.5 amps is killing your battery. And 1 amp is not enough . It takes longer but ...you can leave it in the bike in winter but check levels periodically .
Since CTC is in the business of selling batteries ,this charger that extends the life is discontinued ...

"mine is in series with my lawnmower battery and my bike battery"

            Hi Doug,
if you connect two 12V batteries in series you'd need a 24V charger so I'd bet you have them connected in parallel, right?
In my experience that works fine so long as both batteries (or like where I used to winter-store my powerboat, a whole rack of batteries) are the near enough the same size. One small bike battery and one large truck battery parallel-connected to the same charger will see the small battery getting seriously over-charged.

                      Hi Sandy,
Like most things it's easy once you figure it out
Hook up the little plug supplied with it. Then you just connect the plugs and plug the charger into the wall socket. Can be left on all the time or just plug in for a 24 hours once week. Watch the fluid level which is a little difficult on the XS with the battery installed. Don't give up yet, still a few rides left if we are lucky.
