  • I NEED A GAS CAP 79xs11sf ASAP!

anyone have a gas cap for a 79 xs1100sf special tank? Mine's torn and the damn thing pours gas down my (what used to be a nice painted tank). If anyone has one preferably around okc let me know. I'd like to pick one up sometime this week. I just got my pants SOAKED with gas under a heavy throttle excitement. Mine's torn in a couple places. But let me know fellas thanks! Josh.
Yes it's a damn nice bike, yes it's in REALLY good condition, yes it would be a shame to chop it, BUT damn how cool would it look with ape hangers?

Sounds like you need a gasket, not the whole cap?
I found a gasket at Ace is the Place that was close on the OD.
I knifed the inside to fit and glued it on with RTV.

No more gas in the crotch!

        Hey Bowtied,

Like Sferin said, that's a gasket available from MIKESXS.com. Also IF your cap is getting rather rusty and pitted, you can actually order a complete REPLACEMENT, nice shiny new fairly cheaply also...again from MikesXS!

PS, if you get something from the local hardware store, make sure it's NEOPRENE or equivalent, not just natural RUBBER!!

I did that before, but RTV really didn't hold up. You might try a gasket maker type RTV that is designed for use in OIL applications!

          Rtv

I used RTV to repair a gasket on the base of of my tank once (petcock gasket) well over a year or so some of that black RTV disolved into the gas became a goo that plugged off two of my carb intake screens......contact cement maybe a better choice in future...

            gas cap gasket

So is there somewhere that the gaskets can be bought? I know I'm in dire need of at least 1 myself.

              Made one, but

I think you would be well off to also clear out the drain tube so spilled gas don't get on your tank or you. An old speedo cable with an electric drill will allow you to "roto root" it out. I made a rubber washer once for one of mine and it worked OK. I just cut a washer like peice that was tight around the center part so it wouldn't fall off and it worked fine.
