  • Ground issues - slow starters and cutting out?

For those of you who have had issues with starters that turn slow, or engine cutting out you may need to take a look at your grounds. This is something i did when i rebuilt my starter a couple of years ago. I added another ground for the starter via the middle drive. Starter does spin faster with this cable installed. The cable is an OEM positive battery cable. I'd like to go this one better and get a negative cable (longer) so it will reach the next lug and tie directly to the battery neg.

    How many grounds?

My battery negative is attached to the frame behind the left side cover and I know there is one that attaches the frame to the motor. Now I have not had any electrical issues so far so I am hesitant to touch anything.

I have wondered if it would be beneficial to have a split negative lead from the battery with one lead directly to the frame and the other directly to the starter. It would require a custom cable be made up but would this make for a better flow path for the juice? Any input?

Mike, I've already done that, the two ground lead thing. That one in the photo on the right goes directly to the battery, and there's another one to the frame.

What - you mean dirt? Pics other than the one above? Can you not find your ground?

                  Hey Oldyam,

I checked your user settings, they are set to show photos, and "WE" can see them, I'm still using IE6. I can't remember the names of all of the browsers that Wes said the site was setup for, but sounds like it might be a problem with your browser?

I see the picture.... A more direct ground going to the part of the electrical system that requires the most amps, good idea Randy,

                        Hey T.C.
I'm not seeing it either - using Firefox - any idea why it's not showing up and, is there anything we can do to have the photo's displayed or is this a problem with the new site?

There's a lot of us using Firefox so hopefully it has or will be incorporated into the web site set-up features.

I would hate to have to revert to IE .
