  • Draging starter

Ok my starter works fine when it is cold but when it heats up it drags bad and sometimes when I go to start the bike I have to lightly tap the side of the starter to get it to work. Can I get it rebuilt or do I have to get a new one.

Probably just needs to be removed and have the brushes replaced or maybe just cleaned up. It's not that big nor hard a job Joey. You often see them on ebay for around 10 bucks as well.

So what do you clean it up with? And where is a good place to get the brushes?

Electrical contact cleaner works well. Dealer should have brushes. Bike Barn or Bike Bandit may as well. Partsnmore? I'd try a cleaning first it's simple and cheap and may be all you need for now!

I got one of these complete rebuild kits 2 yrs ago and couldn't be happier with the performance of the starter. I has every wear part except the armature in the kit. Contact them to be sure this exact kit is the one, but they will have what you need.

Ebay Item # 320008977814 (tried to post the link, didn't work)

Also, when you re-install the starter, make sure the engine mounts are CLEAN as well as the mounting ears on the starter itself, those are the points that are the ground connection. I even went as far as to run another ground from one of the starter mounting bolts to the frame, don't really know if it helped, but it feels good!
