  • NAPA Oil filters

Napa used to sell a 1219 oil filter for the XS, it was discontinued a few years ago. I had them cross-ref the Fram number and came up with NAPA 4933. Is anybody using a NAPA 4933 and can tell me if it the right filter and if it comes with the proper o-rings or not?

    Thanks

Hey Gary, can you see the ground yet?

I have a leftover Carquest box here, for my 78E, #89933. It had the correct O-rings. Does this help in your cross reference?

I just wanted to make sure the NAPA was right before I make any changes. Thanks for the carquest #.

          Oil Filters

          Gary,
I use STP #SMO-02, has all required gaskets. 'bout $3.00 each, readily available at most of the auto type superstores. I wasn't sure of availability on this so i bought a case when i found them. since, i've found they are fairly common.

Funny this should come up. I ususally get the Fram filter from Checker Auto Parts. Last time I was in (last week) they said they could no longer get them, evan as a special order. I went across the street to NAPA and got their filter, price was higher at $4.99. It does have the correct O-rings.

Don't remember the filter number, but asked for a filter for my '82 XJ1100 and they came right up with one, even had it in stock. 4933 sounds correct. Box said it was a "NAPA Gold" series, made in Korea.

Thanks Jerry! I ordered one today anyway, so I'll see what I get. Advance Auto parts stocks the Frams for motorcycles (about 10 different styles) in all stores. The have a small seperate section with MC batterys plugs and filters. Frams are still available.

                Gary,
The NAPA oil filter #4933 is the one I use in my 79 Special. It even comes with both O-rings, the one for the cover and the one for the filter cover bolt.

Thanks for the input! I picked one up tonight and it is the proper filter. My price was $5.69. I compared it to a Fram and found that both were made in Korea, the Fram actually seemed to have a little more filter media (more pleats), that was a surprise. The o-rings were packaged in the same pack (same part numbers etc.) so I can only assume that the Napa gold and Fram are made on the same assy. line somewhere, in Korea.

I checked what the brand is that Canadian Tire sells and it is Fram. Found an old box in the garage.

I once picked up a CH6002 from Discount Auto about a week before they converted to Retarded Auto... CH6002 comes with both the bolt o-ring and the filter cover o-ring.

Of course now that I've actually read all of the replies, I know the questions have already been all answered

                            Thank you ever so much.
                            You guys rock.
I drove my 79xs11 for the first time on the road yesterday and damn near smeered myself all over an oncoming truck. Still learning that lean to turn in curves thing.
                            I'm getting better though.
