    Hi Joey,
twice in one day to suggest Andreas.
Think about fitting a Standard tank instead so you can be more than 75 miles from a gas pump.

I was thinking about putting a 82 xj1100 tank on it because its a lot bigger tank. Thanks for the suggestion it made up my mind to go bigger.I hate having to stop and gas up alot.

Hey FRedingtoon-I can go 120 miles on my SG.So with a standard tank I should be able to go about 200 mlies.

Does the 78 and 79 tank hold the same amount of fuel?

              Hi Joey,
dunno about the XJ tank but the XS1100 Standard tank drops right onto a Special. Swap tank entire except for fuel gauge sender. Special gas taps & filler cap do not fit the Standard tank. The fuel gauge sender does fit but works a different way.Swap your Special sender into the Standard tank so that the wire connectors point forward. The holes are for some strange reason on different sides so if you put the sender in with the wires pointing back it'll be upside down and show you the red light way after you has to switch to reserve when you've only got a few spoonsful of gas left. And yeah, you have to crop 5/8" off the front of the Special seat or it won't hook on at the front.
              Hi Tarzan,
lucky you, with my sidecar rig I get 92.4 miles until the reserve is sucking empty.
              Hi Korr,
Clymer's sez the E & F models have the same 5.3 usg capacity.
