  • Rear Bearing

One of the members has had some trouble getting home from the Talihina rally. Richard (Classawinn) has been stuck in Arkansas with a bad rear bearing. He tried the Yamaha shop, but as you know, that bearing is discontinued. He had his wife ship a spare wheel to him on Greyhound.. who then forgot to unload the wheel in Russelville. He had to be taken to it's next stop in Ft Smith to get it. He just about had it back together and would be heading out this evening if all went well. I hope so.. nothing else seems to have for him.. lol.

That being said, I have a local bearing/seal shop with many different companies he orders from. Does anyone know the actual dimensions of this bearing? It would be nice to try to find a decent replacement company.

    Thanks.

So... please forgive my ignorance here.. I've never even see one of these bearings. But.. assuming that the measurements are ID 20mm X OD 37mm... Does the thickness have to be 23mm? I just know you can go a bit either way on the crank bearing thicknesses. Anyone know of a leeway either way you could go? It would possibly make one easier to find.

        NTN Bearing Number NA-5904

TRBIG. Here are some shots of the rear bearing I have. It is a NTN bearing with the NA-5904 number on the box. The lightly printed stamping on the bearing reads, NTN JAPAN YU and then RNA-NA 5904. I hope these turn out good enough for you to use in your search. If you need any more info that I can help with just holler.

Thank you for the pics, but again, does the bearing have to be exactly that wide? Can it be thinner with a washer/spacer taking up the space? What happens if you get two together, but they are a tad thicker?

            A long time ago

This was discussed and yes you could use 2 smaller bearings not exceeding the 23 wide or smaller with a spacer.

Guys, the spacer idea is a good one, but keep in mind that the axle gets torqued down on the inner collar, so you'll need a spacer there as well. I suppose you could turn down the old inner coller, slice off a 5mm piece and use that, but that's machining that's beyond most of us here, who's got the tooling?

Maybe someone who does have the tooling can turn out some if we ship him some old collars?

Me thinks that the inner collar is the only sticky part here. If XSWILLY or someone else can make the inner collar then there should be a fairly wide selection of bearings to choose from. When I went into the bearing shop they said sure no problem until they had to match up the inner collar. I am still waiting for an answer from that bearing shop on the availability on NA-5904's. I guess I should try to phone him again as it has been a few weeks since I last checked in. He still had no news from NTN's rep.

On Yamaha's parts list, what number is the bearing we are talking about? Is it #3 or #4?

                            I thought so. Thank you.

If anyone is interested, Speed and Sport says they have 6 of them in stock for $44.82 a piece. I'd just personally like to find a cheaper option.
