  • hop in the front end

    hey guys,

ok so when i get around 80mph i start to get a hop in the front end. below 80 it doesnt do it at all. above 80 it gets less noticeable, but at 80 is it the stongest. what do you think? tire not ballanced? when it does it i can look at the forks and you can def see them kinds moving back and forth.

    thanks.

That would be the first thing I would check. Tire is probably out of balance.

Genius - I had a similar problem with old Betsy. Took the tire off and checked the balance. Turned out it had been improperly balanced. I removed the weights and found the tire to be balanced with no weights. That problem went away, but I developed another one. I have a touring tread on the front that has been cupping. If I put it in a turn at high speed I get a weird shimmy in the front end that I believe is due to the detiorated tread. Might want to check your steering head nut as well - over tight can do some weird stuff.
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.
