Doing as we speak I just had the coil brackets made on a flowjet.the theory with an extra set of Ford coils bike ran great.
I hate signatures. Too many cars and Bikes to list here.

I'm not in the mood to join yet another forum, can you sum it up here?

Hard to! There are like 70 posts on this topic on the other forum. Basically some guy decided to try a coil on cap setup on his VMax and he says it is working great. He said it was cheaper than factory coils and seemed to produce as good or a better fat blue spark as OEM.

On the VMax, there are two coils right under the seat and two coils up under the airbox. The front coils under the air box are hard to get to and the CDI is as well. The COP setup allows the front and rear OEM coils to be removed altogether, which allows some extra space where they used to be, which can be used for other mods.

The fellow said his bike starts better in cold conditions and so far, works fine.

Not sure how much of an advantage this mod would be on the XS11. Those of us with VMaxes have a good supply of parts, as the Max has run for so many years. I think new OEM coils for the max are only like $75 each. The guy on the Max forum said he got a set of COPs for like $35.

Shuriken - You got me interested, so I did a little checking on epay and found a set from a honda CBR 600 F4i. $110 seems a little steep for used coils, but what do I know. Sure would like to know what the resistance is on 'em.

I know when I put Mikes XS coils on there were issues related to the resistance in the coils. If I remember correctly 3 ohms was the required resistance with the ballast resistor removed.

I noticed on the vmax site in the installation pictures that the stock coils were still mounted, although they were bypassed. I thought that was a pretty good idea as it provided a set of backup coils that could be easily reconnected on the road. Like carrying a spare set of coils. Wait a minute, that is carrying a spare set of coils
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

Coil on plug ignition on the XS may be tricky since it uses a waste spark system. You may be able to run each pair in series on the primary circuit, but this would cut the available primary voltage in half. Run them in parallel and the load on the TCI would double, because of reduced resistance.

TBH, there are several hundred options for automotive wast spark type coils. You can probably pick up some old GM coils for a dime a dozen at a salvage yard.

              They look like this:

Also the early 4.6l ford engines had paired waste spark coils that might be the perfect fit to an XS.

              Ich habe dich nicht gefragt.

I'll have to look into this. I have a supplier that I can get car ignition parts from at wholesale and sometimes better prices than the auto parts stores get. If y'all are interested, I can put together a group purchase once we work out the details.
