  • Stupidity strikes again...

Just a quick question for the chemical gurus... if one let brass jets stay in a carb body overnight in a bucket of acetone...would it ruin/alter the jets?

Acetone should not alter brass. I say this because acetone is a common solvent for cleaning brass and removing paint/dirt from brass. Brass is often used for valves in contact with acetone.

Because I am a geek, here is a table of the uses of brass and how different chemicals react with it.

      Acetone

Sounds pretty safe too me after studying Chemisttry for most of the '80's.

Look out for any rubber parts like o-rings though as they are likely to swell if soaked in acetone and may never be the same again.

My next XS job is an attack on the carbs (again).

Let us know how you get on - I'll be interested in any cleaning tips I can get ....
