Please donate a speedo (okc 79xs spec!)

Hey people apparently was doing some blistering fast speeding the other day and my speedometer needle (the one that tells you how fast your going) has decided to break free from the components holding it firmly to the only job it has to do in its life (the needle broke off and is rolling around inside the gauge under the plastic lens. I just wanted to sound smart. Sorry it's been a long day).

Anyways, if anyone has a parts bike they want to donate a speedo from let me know. I'm in okc and i'll come get it. I just need one so i can know how fast i'm going. I don't have much money so next to nothing is a bonus. But i could probably scrounge up some coin from the couch or something. Thanks and let me know fellas. Josh.

You can disassemble your speedo and fix it. I did mine. It's not that hard.

And that my friends is why Top Cat is a freggin genus! Who else would have the ingenuity to do that. There are a lot of awesome fabricators and bike builders on this site. And the Euro clubs are even more far-out; with their turbo charged 300bhp bikes. But only TC can make something so practical and stock looking out of nothing. It's called creativity. And all you guys never cease to amaze me!

Bowtied, If you are interested I have a good working assembly from a standard. It.s square & won't match the curves of your special but it works good. You would have to replace the tach too, and the wire looms are different so It may be more work than it's worth, but if ya need it just PM me. You can borrow it (have it for free) if you will keep & use it.

I've got a practically new speedo with 2,400 miles on it that I'd part with for 50 bucks plus shipping. (that's what I paid for it) It looks brand new. It's for an 81 special but would probably fit any special - it's round. I bought it for my bike just in case I broke mine trying to get it apart but my fix was successful so I no longer need this one.

to get the glass off your speedo by prying up the bezel and coining it down again afterwards needs the skills of a watchmaker and the patience of a saint.
Me, I cut the bezel into two half-circles with a thin cutting disc on a Dremel tool and pry them off sideways. Reassemble by leaving out one rubber ring and glueing the halves back on with 5-minute epoxy. And even that way takes real care. Best you get a replacement. Tim's $50 offer looks good to me. You don't need a speedo off an XS11, a round speedo head off any XS series bike will work. Dunno if your busted stocker was one of those 85mph ones or not but you can get earlier ones that go higher or a Canadian one that goes all the way to 220kph.
