  • NEED a 79SF Octy

Okay, I am now in need of a new Octopus (petcock diaphragm) for my 1979 special. The diaphragm is blown and I can't find a replacement to save my life. It's discontinued from the dealership and every parts store has it back ordered til December.

If anyone has a working octy, diaphragm or even a rebuild kit they're willing to part with please let me know.

I don't think I'm ready to ditch the whole octy yet, so i'd like to replace not remove.

    Thanks!

Rebuild kits ARE available. Check Georgefix on ebay, as he does carry the ones that work, I think.

you can, in a pinch roll without it. as many others have done, including myself, cap the front ports on the petcocks, and run the rear ports to their respective carb inlets. if you are bound and determined to have the octy, make this mod until you get your parts, then rebuild and reinstall, but you can still ride in the meantime. just a thought, have a nice day and ride safe

            parts parts parts

hmm, well. I checked out Bike Bandit and it looks like they have the part but upon chatting with a rep. they indicated that the part may not be in stock but can be ordered. Huh!?!? I was told the exact same thing by the Yamaha dealer and three weeks later they finally told me that the part might be discontinued and they would refund my $$$.

So it's looking more and more like I might be kickin' it without the octy. For the same amount as an octopus I can replace the petcocks and put some in line filters and just shut off the petcocks when I'm done riding.

Upon researching the forums I've found that most prefer this set up even with the inconvenience of shutting off the petcocks after every ride.

Again if anyone has a link to a site that actually has a rebuild kit or octy in stock then I'd be grateful but it's not looking good.

            Thanks,

            -Jacob
