  • Reassembly after replacing steering head bearings

First of all, thank you to all for the advice and tips. Everything went pretty smoothly and now that I have done it once, I could easily do it in half the time again.

Now, bear with me as I might not get the actual names of all the parts right. Hopefully this will make sense.

Should the top of the steering shaft (what the bearings fit on) be flush with the top of the handlebar bracket or does it end up being just below the top?

And yes, I forgot to take pictures before I began!!

    steering stem

It's slightly below the top triple tree. Tighten the large 22MM bolt first, then the pinch bolt just below it, then the two upper fork pinch bolts.

Thanks phil. How far should the fork tube stick out from the top triple tree? I'm referring to the flat part not the air valve. I have mine pretty flush, with about an 1/8 " gap between the top of the air valve and the bottom of the handlebars.
