    XS Newbie

I have blown out the carbs and now Fuel flows out of carb 3 & 4. When I blew out 3 & 4 it now flows out if 1 & 2 carb and over flow.

Need help! any suggestions? It was running great until this happened. Thanks

Do you mean you blew compressed air back through the fuel lines? If you did you may have blown some dirt into the needle and seats or even damaged something.I think I would take the carbs off and have a little look inside.
Just curious. If it ran great why did you mess with it?
    BTW welcome to the site.

It was running great until I started heading home. It started running rough and I noticed it was poring fuel. I puled off the carbs sprayed carb cleaner and used compressed air to clean out the ports. I never used air in the fuel hoses.

In the vacuum ports then?Well it looks like you are now part of the club.If your carbs flood and overflow then they need to come apart for the big cleaning.LOL.
Well at least its the end of summer.Take your time and be very thorough and make sure they are good and clean and there is lots of help here .
So good luck and I'm sure a lot of guys will be watching to see what the problem is and to be of service. This place is great.

Tap the carb bowls with a screwdriver handle while it's running. Sometimes this will dislodge the blockage in the float valve.

The better way would be to remove the float and the float valve and see if there is crap in the screen. For me that was the difference in not getting fuel to that carb and the carb leaking.

And it was just getting into the good riding weather, at least in the afternoon.

Thanks I will keep all posted and, I have started looking for the rebuild kits.

I will also look in to the trash in the screens. If anyone else has any suggestions I will continue to look back every day or so. I think this site is great.

Don't forget about the orings in the float seats. Lots of members had fixed their leaks by just replacing the orings.

you didn't mention what year your bike was, the 78's and 79's didn't have the above mentioned o-ring.

You've probably notice most everyone has their bike in the "signature". Its helpful because then everyone knows what year/model you have, and you don't have to remember to post it everytime.

                      What year?

His profile says '80, but you're right it helps if its in the signature line.

I haven't figured out how to add this info in the signature. I have an 1980 XS11SG Special. I have found out that I have to order parts for a 1979SG if I want the right parts.

I have cleaned out the carbs, adjusted the floats and used compressed air to blow out all ports.

I bought the bike about 5 months ago and after the carb tear down I noticed one brass washer (bottom screw needle valve)was busted and 3 missing washers from the screw that holds the low idle jets.

It is running again but has a stunble between 2000 and 3000 on take off. But I am back on the road.

                          1979SG?

'79 is SF, '80 is SG The way it works is '78 is E, '79 is F, '80 is G and '81 is H and the S means Special. There was no SE, but there was a SF, SG, and I'm not sure there was a SH, maybe someone else knows....

Ok I was looking at the frame that is 3J6-xxx and the motor says 2H7-xxx.

Everytime I order parts for an 80 model I get the wrong parts. So when looking for parts, what should I look for???
