    Welcome to the site, first.
Does it sound and feel like a machine gun, chatter chatter? If so, it's time to pull the pan and do a transmission fix.....
The instructions can be had by going to the "tech tips" from the MAIN Forum page, not just from here. (xs11.com) There is a VERY good writeup on how to fix 2nd gear. First is the same problem, just a different set of gears.

          1st gear problem

          Guys Thanks for your help.
I have looked at the article on 2nd gear problem.

yes it makes a sound like a machine gun, but dosnt come out of gear.
what i do is shift into 2nd gear and go from there.

do you guys recommend grinding the cogs on the gear, so they will mesh together better.?

          any info would be great.
          Thanks

P.S. i will update my profile.

Yup - that's the fix. The "fingers" from fourth engage those little "ledges" on first. You need the square everything up and then grind them so they pull together by back-cutting the mating surfaces to match just like the tech note shows. You'd better do the 2nd/5th interface while you're in there. Some also switch the thrust washer to the other side of second to allow more engagement in second gear. I did. No problems since.
