  • Stock seat?

I don't know how to put a picture in here so can someone who knows about the specials stock seats respond so I can send them a picture of what I have? I am just curious if I have a stock special seat, a standard seat, or did the PO put something else on.

Seat looks to have been recovered and the foam is shaped like my old 80 Standard...but there may have been a few differenet designs.

        80G seat (original cover)

80 LG seat on one of my 79 specials (custom cover, original foam)

MROzz, very similar seat but my brake light is attached to the seat. PAIN when removing the seat but I have some weather proof quick disconnect electrical connectors I plan to re-wire with.
I still can't figure out how to post a picture! I'll e-mail it to Ross to see if he knows if it is a stock special or aftermarket. design is just off enough from yours kind of makes me think it isn't stock.

Thanks, you got back a minute (or two) too late.
My internet account gives me a free web page so I moved the pictures to my web page and then linked to them. I don't know why I didn't realize that before.

thanks. It is getting hard as a rock so I was trying to figure if it was better to re-stuff this one or get another. I'm heading towards re-stuff so i can feel the foam and know what I am getting. If I go new seat I'd have to buy it on line and not really know what I was getting.

                      All due respect ...

but the seat is definately not 80 G (Standard). I believe the seat is a 78 or 79 Std. Would depend how it fits at the tank. The E or F or G seat is way too wide at the tank side for the Specials and would have to be cut down for a good fit. If I wanted to be sure, I'd feel around in the back of it for the screw holes for the tail cone. That'd probably tell the tale.

Mro.... notice the taper at the rear of the seat ... is 'undercut' to accomodate a tail cone (like on an E or F) The 80 Special seat in the rear is more vertical to accomdate the heavy grab rail with the tail light attached to it and has no appreciable undercut or outward taper .

On the G, the rear seat taper is slightly outward since the tail light is low on the fender like the SF. It has no tail cone like the earlier standards, It's grab rail and rear fender are very similar to the SF. The G is really a morphing of a Standard and Special especially in the seat area.

how can i find out exactly what my bike is? If I can find another seat cheap enough that is what came on my bike I'd rather do that. I an always sell this seat to make up for buying another one. I am practicing for the wife as she finds out I am looking into another financial investment for the bike.

                            seat

Here's a pic of a stock Special seat. It's either an 80 or 81. I had it on my 79 for a while but I had to modify it so it would fit. HTH
