  • sissy bars

Im looking for a sissy bar for my 80 xs1100 special. I have seen a few on e-bay but, not specifically for the 1100. What I found is for a xs 750. It has the sissy bar and luggage rack. I'm wondering if it will fit. Any ideas? Also, if not, anyone know where one can be found for the 1100 or perhaps from another bike that might work?

Thanks again everyone for your help.

Sorry I can't help with this question but I'll be watching this thread. SWMBO is insisting that I have a sissy bar on mine before "the boy" is allowed to ride on the back.

        Sissy bar?

do you want a sissy bar that attatches to the luggage rack or the type that goes with the high backed seat. for I have one that goes with highbacked seat that I took off after moving lights back so can interchange seats with 79 special.

I don't know about the original poster, but I'm looking for anything that can be leaned back on. The only thing that's on mine right now is the little bar that would be real uncomfortable to try to hold on with.

            Hi Varnae,
a pillion rider don't need no sissybar, he should lean forward and cling onto dad. Sissybars are OK for strapping a bedroll onto but in 2-up riding they can be a hazard.

              Thanks All,

Well after much looking I think I will make my own. Can anyone give me a good close up shot on how the sissy bars / luggage rack mounts to the 1100. That way I have a idea for the brackets. I am assuming the all mount the same. Please let me know if I am wrong, cause we all know what happens when you assume.

                Lawn chairs

                Hi Ozz,
you can find rusty steel tube lawn chairs at garage and yard sales for a mere dollar or two. They have nice machine-made curves in them that look far nicer they the average DIY metalworker can make. That leaves you with simple straight buttwelds to make as you jigsaw-puzzle the bends and straights you've hacksawed from the chair frame into the exact sissybar you want. The next step is not original, I saw one of these for sale on E-bay. The aftermarket sissybars you can buy bolt on instead of the cast aluminum grab rail you have right now. This guy had salvaged a steel tube sissybar off of something else and made U-shaped sheetmetal ends that slipped over an existing cast grabrail (I think, from an XS750) and drilled through the grabrail to bolt his cut down sissybar to it.

I bought an after market NOS sissybar with backrest on ebay last year. It's for a special, problem is I have a standard.

PM me and I'll send you a picture. I could let it go cheap!

I have one with a padded back rest. It has the Yamaha symbol on the back (looks like the Harley symbol almost) I doubt it is for the XS, but it bolts on perfect at the shock and to the holes right below where the seat bolts up. If you want I can take detailed pictures and measurements for you to help built to.
PM me if you want. I can't get e-mails on postings even when I check the e-mail notification box.

Here is the bar that came with my bike.
I think you can make many types fit. My saddle bags have braces that bolt right up to my bike, but they are Harley bags and braces so I bet there are many sissy bars that can bolt right up too. I know a guy from an ATV forum who makes a lot of stuff from aluminum. I know he can wip out a nice sissy bar if the dimensions are supplied.
