Bigger Special Tank

I have an extra tank for my ride, but the PO did the best paint job $4.99 can buy on it. I have been thinking about chopping it up and trying to make a bigger tank, yet retain a pleasing look to it.

Anyone ever done something like this that they may have photoed? I saw somewhere a guy that made one which was kinda square looking, and had fiberglass in it. Since I trust my welding skills more than my glassing skills, I would rather do something with metal.

Hi Ivan,

There are a few bikes on here with extended tanks; you need to do a bit of searching ('cos I am too lazy to give you links!).

MathH's Turbo bike has a tank which has had a strip added to each side, and I think there are "construction" pics somewhere......

I am sure I have seen pics of a similarly modded special tank, and at least one tank which has been extended upwards.

However, the "Standard" tank comes in two different sizes, is pleasing to the eye of many XS fans, and would give as much capacity as your modded Special tank for no effort; why not see if someone on here would like to swap your badly painted Special tank for a Standard version so you can see what you like on the bike?
