  • Slight Clutch Chatter?

I have ridden my awesome and new to me SF about 600 miles now and when I release the clutch from a standing start I am feeling a slight chatter just prior to complete clutch engagement. The clutch does not slip in fith gear and is adjusted to spec at both adjustment points.
I have read most of the threads here regarding clutch issues and it certainly looks relatively simple and straight forward (as I am careful with the star plate). Is the chatter a sign of weak springs or glazed friction discs?? Any Thoughts would be appreciated.

    Thanks

There are tabs or "Dogs" on your friction and steel plates. Look at the main clutch boss where these tabs slide back and forth. If it gets notched, it could cause that. This pic isn't very good, but hopefully it will help...

You can file it smooth, or andreashweiss says he has plenty of good spare clutches pretty cheap.
Try your hardest to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are.

My understanding was that also warped plates, steels, could also cause chattering or vibration during final clutch engagement. Might also be glazed plates as well?

        Re: Slight Clutch Chatter?

If it engages and disengages, ride it until the next clutch change and just live with the noise (unless it drives you nuts).

So I have been riding a couple of days since I noticed this and it is not causing drivability issues yet. I am Taking Skids recom at this time and as it worsens will dive in aand take care of the clutch business.

          Thanks Gents
