Gas in the oil, in itself, won't make a bike run worse or bad.. until it eats the bearings away. The CAUSE of the gas getting into the oil will (Leaky carbs etc..) If the oil is still in the sight glass, I would think you could rule that out for now. I'm betting you just got a little corrosion somewhere while it sat in the damp, or you got some water/condesnation in the tank... but I've been wrong lots before! lol.

yeah, i've been wrong once or twice too lol.

Maybe I misinterpreted what was happening, but on both my old XS650 and the current 1100, I've had gas leak into the base. Fixed the source of the gas leak, but bike ran like crap until the oil was changed. Both incidences are a few years in the past now, but that's how i remember it. Possible i suppose that I fixed somethng else while the oil was draining. Also possible that both engines had bad rings and i needed every bit of viscosity i could get to maintain reasonable compression.

Bottom line, that's what I convinced myself of at the time, but I don't recall all the circumstances enough now to argue the point.

Still, for the sake of 10 minutes and 3 or 4 l of oil, I'd change it if there was any doubt at all.

When I had gas in the oil, it ran great but a little more "tinny" sounding, burnt the bearings out. The best way to check for gas in the oil, is put a small green limb down in the oil, pull it out, stick a flame to it, if there is gas it will catch fire, if not it won't catch fire, learned this trick after it happened to me. errrr

He said it wouldnt run till he put it on prime it was just low on gas . Fill it up add some seafoam and run the sucker. If anything he got some dirt in the carbs cause he run it outta gas. KISS is an old saying but sometimes its the little things we miss.
          Good luck

Okay we're good to go! I fixed it. When i parked the bike i had an issue with the taillight not worken. Well when i pulled the seat and tank to trace down wiring i screwed it up hahaha. Nothen major i kinked the fuel lines from the petcock so it was starving it for fuel. I'm pretty sure it was running on hopes and dreams. So needless to say i didn't get ANY gas to the carbs themselves. But regardless of which it's fixed now FINALLY! So now i can enjoy a nice fun ride to work tomorow! I can't believe thats all it was.

On a side note tho i found an AWESOME tool kit in a "hidden" compartment i never knew existed! hahahaha! Had i known about that a few weeks ago i would have been in alot better mood! But yeah fun times. Anyhow thanks for all the help fellas!
Yes it's a damn nice bike, yes it's in REALLY good condition, yes it would be a shame to chop it, BUT damn how cool would it look with ape hangers?
