Today i took the bike out for a ride because it finally stopped raining!Got home and decided to do a compression check.#1 #2 and #4 cylinders show 145 to 150.#3 will only go to 130.Did not have any oil to squirt in #3 cylinder but according to the Yamaha book 128 is the minimum. What is the next step i should take or is the difference enough to be concerned? What factors go into getting the maximum readings?

Higher than stock readings could be from carbon build up.
Lower reading, valve out of adjustment or worn, rings or cilider wear. Add a tea spoon of oil and try again.
If the bike seems to run pretty good....would not worry about it.

Thanks- just wanted to be sure. When i removed the plugs they looked great.I would like to put at least 1000 miles on it before i put it away-but this year i convinced my Mom that when i leave the bikes in my storage unit i cant always get to them like i should so she said OK why throw all that hard work down the drain leave it in the garage so you can "play" when you visit.1980 XS1100 SG
