  • Steering lock turning on signal lights

Hiy guys sorry i have another problem with my turn signals
Today is the first time that i actually used my steering lock. I got to work and turned the ignition all the way to the left to lock the steering, but failed to notice that my turn signals were on I went to lunch with some buddies and found out that one of them does fabricating. So i asked if he could make me some brackets that would allow me to mount aftermarket turn signals right behind the license plate. I showed him the rear end of the bike and showed him the turn signals up front and noticed that there is now a dime sized hole on the top half of the light and realized it had been on this whole time since 10:30am! I see that whenever my steering lock is engaged, it turns on all 4 turn signals. I've used the steering lock on my other bikes and none of them did that. Is my ignition switch screwed up somewhere?

There is a park light feature just past the lock position on the ignition switch. You just turned it to far. If your label around the key whole is worn off like mine, just turn the key until you feel it lock the wheel and pull the key out. One more click and you leave the park lights on!

I have had this same problem, but I didn't know it was a feature. I just got used to not turning it that far.

I guess you learn something new every day.

Few years back decided to lock the bars on my 80G.
Came back couple hours later and the battery was dead
That was the last time I locked em other than just checking that it still works.

For me it was a good feature for troubleshooting my oil light. When I turned the key to park the tail light didn't come on but when the bike was running it did.

Oil light was always on. This meant that something was amiss with the tail light circuit and not the oil pressure, oil light doubles as a warning that tail or brake light is out.

Anyway, the PO had bypassed the light checker and wired the tail light direct to the headlight circuit at the fuse box.

I was just thinking how does it lock the bars is there a mechanical linkage on the ignition? Or does it use an electric motor. I would check mine but the ignition isnt there any more. Pictures are always nice ^_^ thanks

It is mechanical, just like when you lock your door at the house or car steering wheel.
