Quit sniffing the gas fumes so much or you'll end up like our poor Promiscuous.. err.. I mean Prometheus.
........Hey Big, I prefer Promesswithus But that's another debate....Messing around with different airbox designs this summer, One thing for sure that as your air filter gets dirty, it affects the richness of the f/a ratio. I thought my K&N "looked" clean, but after washing it a few days ago, she is running less rich again after pulling the plugs and starts a little easier.

Took the SF out for some joy riding. Put on about 60 miles. It was a great day in the sun. She still lags a bit above 6k but other than that it ran great. Probably could use a bigger main. Or maybe I should just be happy and kept it under 90 cuz that's about all she'll do right now. I'll check the mileage after this tank and if it's decent I should leave it alone. I did sync carbs and it's smooth up to 6k and will continue to pull to 8.5k but not willingly. Plenty of midrange gusto tho. Here's a few pics:

Stock air filter that's clean. I wonder if a K&N would help it? What's the UNI filter I keep seeing in the posts?
I'm not sure if it's baffled at all on the pipes. sounds really nice tho. Thanks for your comment
We can always learn something new just reading the post, for the last 65,000 miles I have completely disassembled my carbs when cleaning them, I would soak each carb for 30 mins each in carb cleaner, then soak them in water, then air blow them out, and let them dry, never had any problems til I replaced a diaphragm, in # 4 carb, it thru it all out of sinc, turned out the needle was about 1/8 th shorter. fixed that, smoothed right back out, but lately I have been blowing a little black smoke when pushing it hard. Never took the butterflys off when soaking, so now I probably need to replace the butterfly seals. This is a great forum. Later 'Dog
I used UNI's on my banshee, they are cheaper and last a long time.. no airbox so I made velocity stacks from PVC pipe and a furnco rubber connector, ran awesome after that.. One observation though.. UNI's and K&N's can suck sand right thru. Now Im talking sand dunes, that was the only time I had probs.. I think its because of the sharp nature of sand grains but I have found them on the inside of K&N's and UNI's, fortunatly stuck in some oil..
Im not sure If anyone uses those prefilter socks that go over these types of filters but if you are in a dusty/sandy climate I would use em..

Went to the 140 mains and it was a big improvement. But then after reading about the filters and air box mods I tried it without filter. It would pull all the way to redline. So out came the drill. Six 1/2'" holes in the bottom of air box did the trick. No need for the 142.5 mains now cuz the plug color looks good and it makes good power on the top end. It bogs down a little below 3k but I can deal with that. The next size up on pilots would probably help that but I'm afraid to mess with success now. She do 100+ now whereas before it would top out about 90.....i don't even want to go faster do I??? Thanks every one for the great input.
hey there ruffrider 100+ eh.....so is like that 101 or what.....how far did you take it....when did the yellow stripe come out (ya, i got one too!) and you chickened out....i've had the "rebel devil" up to about 125 or so...then it was time to back off....but she had lots more 2 offer.....maybe on a nice flat straight road....i guess i'll have 2 try that in ohio, cause they don't exist in our area.....glad 2 hear progress is being made and things are running better...always feels good.....talk 2 ya later..ross

I just ran out of a straight road and yes, maybe ran out of a little guts or maybe common sense prevailed. I'm curious tho of how fast it can go. I see some specs say 130 mph? I don't think it's running that good yet and don't think I'll try to find out either. I can just see it now.... Honey can you come bail me out of jail
