Any reason this wouldn't bolt on an 11?

    Re: 850 oil cooler

I wouldn't bolt an invalid item to my bike! Your link showed that it was sold or removed.

The 850 oil cooler is not a girect bolt on install. I used one for years, but had to modify the hoses and had to use zip ties to hold it to the frame.

All the European XS1100s had Oil Coolers fitted as standard. If it was me I would expand my ebay search and pick up the pieces from there. The filter bowl is identical to yours. The adapter plate is just less than an inch thick.

A tip.. in the UK you need to search with XS1100. For Germany and France you need to add a space. i.e. XS 1100

This is the XS1100 unit as fitted to my bike.
The filter adaptor is the same, but thats where it ends.
All the mounting points are on your frame from new, you just dont know where I guess.
These coolers were also fitted to the bikes sold new in New Zealand and Australia.
I have removed mine and are not refitting it

do these oil coolers acctually help with anything? Also, back when i had my xj750 i was thinking about getting an adapter to use an up to date car oil filter... does somebody make them for these bikes? is it worth getting?

oil coolers will help during the hot months! also mine looks like it is routed differntly. one hose goes around to the back side of the motor??? and my cooler is shaped different than that one.

Spin on oil filter adapters SOFA's for short. TC makes them, and here's a link about them.

Yamahansolo - Sounds like you have the same kind of setup I do. The 79's didn't come with a factory oil cooler, and mine is grafted in between the ports for the oil delivery pipe on the back of the engine. I have both of my hoses running through the gas tank tunnel.
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

I have a complete oil cooler set up that came off an 81 XS11 standard. Just in case anyone is interested. All parts and pieces are there.
