  • Clutch Question

    Hi,
I purchased a brand new set of springs and by the kindness of a fellow member I have a plate on the way to stop the slip.

The springs I purchased say they are 10% stiffer than stock or original equipment springs.
Is it ok to use the springs and the extra plate when I rebuild the clutch or should I just use the springs. I guess the question is with the stiffer springs will the plate be overkill?
    Thanks

    Probably overkill

Probably a little too much, but changing the arrangement is fairly easy and can even be done without draining the oil. I found some washers at McMaster.com that are the exact ID and OD and are 1 mm thick. Usually a couple under each spring solves slipping problems. Worked great for me.

I've put the extra plate and HD springs on a couple XSes.
No problem. Right after you put the new springs in you may notice it takes a little more to squeeze the clutch handle, but it will seem normal after a few days.

Thanks MRO that is what I will do then.
I've got strong hands that still work so it sounds good.
        Thanks for the input!

cable springs +,= cable stretch +

I put a drag clutch on a motor cycle to remain nameless on this site (kaw 500 triple). By the end of the summer I went through 2 clutch cables due to stretching of the cable. Oh I also look like I was on the Popeye work out video (only on my left arm). My friend at the time had an 1100 midnight special and damn near put his left foot on the handle bars to try to pull my clutch in. I was using 2 fingers on his. And of course calling him a weenie, asking him if he always wears his girl friends underwear when he rides...ect. Told him I would like to take a ride with his boy friend some time. Just having fun, watch your cable stretch. best of luck.
