I have a opportunity to get what I'm being told is a 1982 xs 1100. It would be from a guy i work with. He took a picture of it but I can't find one like it anywhere on the web. On the oil tank there is some writing and what looks like a check or v mark. It does have the 4 into 1 exhaust. It also has the reflectors on the rear shocks. The handle bars maybe aftermarket but look like the 1978 stock model. Can anyone help me?

Hey Dannnb,
Many times the headlight won't work because the charging system isn't working! There is a relay that gets latched with a POWER SIGNAL from the ALT, but if it's not charging, no signal, no latching, no headlight!
$200 is a steal. Check out the MISC forum, what to look for in a neglected XS11 thread.
Cleaning ALL of the electrical connectors....especially the ones hidden behind the fuseblock for the ALT can go a long way in eliminating gremlins and get a bike working right!
Hope you are okay with cleaning carbs?

Quick advice
Hey, guy. Just a quick note to remind you to resist the urge to hit the starter button until AFTER you have made sure that there isn't any gas in the crankcase, and until AFTER you have drained the fuel bowls and cleaned the carbs if it has been sitting for awhile, and until AFTER you have made sure that there isn't a wad of rust running from the tank to the carbs. . .are there inline fuel filters on this that you can check for rust?
I ran my bike before realizing that there were huge flakes of rust getting past the inline filters. I am sure that somewhere on the forum there is a note to check all of this before hitting that starter button, but, gosh, I just wanted to hear it run!
Good luck and have fun, and keep alot of beer available for those times when your frustration level is at its highest. . .
