So how do the brakes feel after the swap?

Solid or still mushy? (if they were) Any noticeable improvement in braking?

I'm heading down the same path so would like to know the outcome!

    Thanks.

Rumba, I just replaced the rubber lines on the XS I just got from planedick. With the old lines, you could pull the brake handle too the bars. The new SS lines only allow me to pull it about 1/3 the way!! The great part is I can stop with only two fingers, NOT all of them!

Much improved ...mind you I have only owned this bike since Jan of this yr.so I have never ridden it with the brakes working totally the way they should...always was some drag on the driveline....anyways the back brake is nice and solid...the fronts are much improved over the old crap...a two fingered pull almost halfway to the bar is sufficient and brakes feel is solid all around...very pleased with the bike and myself too

Dont remember the length..but I went with a 3 line kit that is made specifically for the '81 Special...the rear brakeline was custom ordered.I sent in the old rear line for them to match up.I went thru cyclebrakes.com and the front kit and rear lines are made by Galfer. The ppl at cyclebrakes were very knowledgeable and helpful too...best of luck with it...oh I highly reccommend getting the "Speedbleeders" bleeding the brakes is a one person affair...well worth the $$$...As for how the other 1100 runs...smooth,powerful quiet, and long distance runner, makes our Yammies seem rather crude ....but thats what I like abt the old bikes....When I want to go Lonnnnnng distance then its the ST1100.

              Hey Bamper and BNE,

I was a bit surprised to see the 3 piece REAR setup of your new lines? I "THINK" I understand the reason for the metal tubing, being close to the shock springs, no flexing so it can't get caught in the spring coils and get damaged!

But, I didn't like the extra fittings, more places for leaks and extra costs!! SO..when I had mine done, I just measured the length for the total rear line, and had just 1 complete SS line made for that lenth. I removed the CLIP that you see holding the metal hose, and used it to secure the SS line, so it doesn't get near the rear shock, and only has 2 fittings instead of 4!

                  DOH

Well TC cant think of everything I should have gone with one piece of brakeline...they just matched what I had sent...at any rate it all is tight and no leaks..and I aint touchin' it now...thats one more thing crossed off the list......LOL BTW your brake lines are logically cool in Green
