  • Hello and Brake Help

    Hello all.

    I just picked up a 80 xs1100 special.
I think the front pads are on wrong. The inboard pad is thin and the outboard pad is thick on the left and right rotor. From my understanding the pads should be thin at the front, thick in the rear of both the inboard and outboard pads.

I looked at a schematic for the front brakes but it is hard to tell.

Pics of bike to follow soon.

    Hey MrOzz,

Nope, the pads are to be mounted with thin/thick sections opposing each other, this is so that the caliper can be angled/rotated when fitted. SO, 1 pad thin, 1 pad thick at the same location!

I was going to post a link to the Tech Tips, but I just reread it, and it's not as clear as it should be regarding the wedge shaped pads for the specials! Another thing for the to do list!

      Thanks TopCatGr58!!!

      One other quick question,

Does it matter what pad goes where? Thin on inboard, thick on the outboard side? or visa versa?

      I feel better now thanks.....
