  • Jardine 4 to 1 exh.

I'm looking to replace my MAC 4 into 1 on my '82 XJ1100 with a new Jardine 4 into 1...Should I be able to just bolt this on? It will fit all model years..including the XJs' is there anything else I might need or is this as straightforward as I am thinking its gonna be?Dont ask me where I found a new Jardine exhaust

I found mine to be relatively easy to install, the paint didn't stick worth a damn, but I really liked the sound. I did have to fabricate a bracket to mount the muffler as the one that came with the system wasn't long enough. all in all, I had it on the bike in an hour or two. could probably put it on or take it off in 30 min. now. As I said, found it to be an easy install. Have a nice day and ride safe

Hey MadMaxim, did you get the chrome set or the black set with the chrome cannister? Or did you really get lucky and find the famed spaghetti system? I just bought a brand new Chrome Jardine 4 to 1 from Karla Jones. Yippee!

Hey Tim... The MAC is ok...but the chance to get a real Jardine system plus the sound and overall quality is way above MACs'...at first I wasnt really sure which bike I'd put it on...but I think it'll be the XJ...on my '81 Streetfighter it has a Kerker 4 into 1 and I like the way that sounds..so I'll leave that one alone...

I purchased one of the black 4-1 Jardines to put on my 79XS,
After reading several post re this system, I am curious.
Has anyone fitted this syten to a XS that has the external chassis mounted Oil cooler?
                I am concerned that .
1 The right hand oil cooler pipe will be fouled by the headers.
2 The extra depth of the oil filter due to the adaptor is going to foul with the headders as well under the sump.
If this is so then I may just have to remove and not use the oil cooler.
Unless somebody has done it, and can give me advice.

Sorry Mate..Havent been there ....FWIW I've never used an oil cooler...if you arent in an extreme heat environment then I'd remove it...But OFC you'd rather keep it if at all possible...so hopefully someone with more experience will chime in...

                    Hey there Subike,

I scoured the Bike Photos thread trying to find examples of the Jardine 4-1...a front view, and I THINK I found a couple, from a couple of our more frequent members. One is from Rob/79xs11f in Canada, the other is from DennyZ who's at a PNW 30th ann. rally this weekend.

Rob's shows the oil filter cup better, and his is WITHOUT an oil cooler, and you can see how close the pipes are already to the cup, without the additional 1" thickness/drop of the oil cooler plate that is sandwiched between the cup and engine case!!

This other photo doesn't quite show the filter cup, but again you can see the proximity of the pipes!

Not trying to drum up business, but this last year "we" developed a Spin on oil filter and oil cooler adapter that is about 1.35" thick, but uses a spin on filter that is a bit narrower than the OEM cup, a Fram PH 3950, you can find cross references for it locally. The dimensions are listed in the TECH TIP, and you can measure the diameter and calculate the distance from the center mounting bolt outward to see if would allow room for the filter with your NEW PIPES!?

Here's my Midnight with the Jardines.

Here is the underside of the pipe from the road at about 60 in a sharp right hand turn. I'm going to take them and the pods off this fall, get the smaller jets and go back to stock...

                        Hey DPotter,

BTW, I remembered your first name, but didn't post it, thinking that you are wanting to maintain privacy/security!?

After looking at your pipes and the other photos I just posted, I can see that DennyZ's ARE Jardine, but Robs look different.!

Rob's 1-2 pipes are routed to the lower outside of the 3-4 ones on his, whereas on the Jardine, the 1-2 pipes/headers are routed towards the Inside/Engine side of the 3-4 headers, which would also put them much closer to the oil filter cup.

Would it be too much trouble to take some shots from the front lower view to better show how CLOSE the pipes are to the CUP, even perhaps put a RULER in there so "we" could get some scale for calculating clearances for the oil cooler plates, and such!?

                          Sweet fellas!
the pics are great dpotter, its good to see a std with the exhaust fitted, gives me a good idea of how mine might look.
I will be doing a fitment onto the bike first, get everything lined up, then removing the unit and giving it a good coat of paint.
Also going to give the inside a coat of ceramic, just to help it a bit .
As for the Oil cooler, NZ temperatres dont get as high as it does in central USA, so the oil cooler is not going back onto the bike. Sweet more dead weight gone lol.
T C the spin off oil adaptor is of interest to me, as the toss away filter is prefered to the messy paper one. But again need to be sure of the clearances before going down that road.
If it clears the Jardine headers, and can be spun off without removing the headers then I will be in for one of those for sure.
It is another of those very sencible mods that have come from these pages.

Here's a pic of my Jardines, po had them ceramic coated out side. This pic is before I cleaned them up and reinstalled properly. They were too loose going into the collector. I was never big on 4 into 1s on the 11s but I've grown to like these ones.

Changin the oil isn't too bad, easy to get filter housing off, tougher to get back on.
