    100 Miles

I've managed to put about 100 miles on the new drive . I've noticed one bad thing, I got oil on my rim. During the change I took the ring gear cover off, which I didn't need to do. I guess I didn't get the o-ring back in properly, or I sheared it a little. I'm gonna have to take it apart and either put a new o-ring in oradd some RTV sealant to get everything right.
Thanks for all the help in easing my mind about the temperature issue, or lack of.
Hey Red, now I'm just a bit concerned about you. Easy the big guy!

So, if I have this right, the proper lube and the correct amount is critical to keeping your rear end cool when riding?

And the proper lube is also a must in keeping your SHAFT working in the Groove! Too little lube, and too much friction and you'll wear the knobs off!!

And you also need to keep your Plug secured tightly, otherwise a slow dribble occurs, and can really cause you to suffer from a very LOOSE rear end!

Tim, is it hypoid oil you're seeing or grease?? It's common to sling some grease outwards after repacking the splines, that's why the wheel has that plastic sling guard. And if it was filled just a bit over, it could also leak out of the upper vent!?

          Oil Or Grease

Nope TC, its oil. And it isn't coming from the vent. It's along bottom edge of the FD. After I took the wheel off I saw the grease on the inside of the sling guard. Glad it was there, I put a wee bit too much on the splines the last time. guess I'll have to pull the wheel off and find a new o-ring or try RTV along with the old o-ring. (sigh)

            It was the O-ring

After further review and disassembly of the FD, I discovered that when I put the ring gear cover on the FD housing, I sheared the o-ring into three pieces. Next I took the 1100 FD apart and scavanged the 0-ring from it. I then coated the o-ring with synthetic grease and GENTLY pushed it together. So now I try again. Should be ok now. Now I know why so many of you have parts bikes. Like having your own parts counter in your garage

              FD leak

Bike sat in garage all night with no leaks, so I rode it to work. Sat outside all day with no leaks, so I'm golden. Gonna run it for a little while before I change over to synthetic lube. Thanks to everyone who chimed in to help
