Looks like a 750. 650s had a squarish shaped side cover more like an 11. I always liked the lines of the 750s.

While there have been reports of an XJ 1100 Midnight Special, and Yamaha literature seems to suggest there was, the consensus is that no XJ11 MNS was ever sold in the US. Every report of an XJ MNS that can be verified have been of the smaller bikes like the one pictured, or MNS wheels relocated onto a non-MNS bike. (The XS11 MNS wheels are interchangeable with the XJ wheels.) The XS MNS were - I think- produced in '79, '80, and '81. The '78 model year did not have a MNS in the line-up.
Typically Yamaha, a few owners have reported getting some MNS trim on their bikes, most notable the gold carb "caps" which apparently came on some non-MNS bikes.
I agree; I think an XJ11 MNS would be a very attractive bike!
