  • Greasing the Driveshaft Spline Question

I have removed the final drive to grease the drive shaft splines and wonder if there should be a gasket between the two flanges. My bike doesn't have one, but if there is not one, what keeps the water out of the splines? I checked a parts listing and didn't find a gasket. It just doesn't seem that the steel flanges could seal that well without something between them.

Give it a thin coating of black RTV, if you are worried.
