  • WOW is this true?

According to this How STuff Works web site in 1980 there were only 250 Yamaha XS1100 Midnight Specials built?

    Here is the site: http://auto.howstuffworks.com/1981-y...ht-special.htm

It is down the page, it says only 250 were built in 1980 and in 1981.

I've tried to find out actual production numbers but Yamaha won't tell nor have I found reliable info anywhere else. One story was that only one MNS was allowed to each dealer to draw customers to there store, other stores similar to yours. Can not go by serial numbers as I do not believe they are all sequential.
There do seem to be fewer MNS than any other model and from what I've read they were the most XSpensive XS.

I've seen way too many of them for that to be true.
Other than mine, have yet to see another XSept pics here
Nor have I seen another XS from Mirrium Cycles (but they are out there somewhere)
Then agin have not seen any other XSes than the few guys I've meet on the forum. I do run across a guy now and then that knows what an XS11 is, but not many.

I had a guy pull up next to me yesterday and ask me if my 1100 was a 750! He said he used to have one. Of all the guys that I've met that "used to" have one, every one of them wished they still did.

The only thing I've ever heard on production numbers is every dealer was delivered 1 of each model and a second if sales numbers were high enough. They went for sticker price + in the day and one dealer would sell his to another for the right price.

So... with that... I am assuming there were more than 5 Yamaha dealerships per STATE in the U.S. It seems like there's one in most middle sized + towns. Does this include the other countries also? That number seems awefully low to me.
