Greetings to all! To make a long story short, I purchased a 1980 XS1100 that was abandoned in a barn for 14 years. A buddy of mine had caught a glimpse of it from a country road and contacted the farmer that owned the property. He purchased the property which included the barn and the contents. He of course didn't have the title and I am having a time getting one with the new Homeland Security laws. I think my only option now is to purchase an old bike for parts or the frame someone has stripped down with the VIN # intact and clear title.

    All ideas welcome.

pcmcse1 - Welcome to the dark side! Don't know about Illinois, but in Ohio you can apply for a salvage title. A bill of sale might be required. Might check the DMV site for the land of Lincoln and see if they have any info. You might also want to take a look at this thread .
I think I have a loose screw behind the handlebars.

      with the VIN # intact

Unless the engine has been changed, number on top of right engine case is same as the frame.

Find somebody to do a mechanics lien on it for you. I'm going through the same thing right now with my bike, cost me $100.
