    Cigars all 'round

    The 1.1s is on the road and legal as of this weekend.

    Engine rebuilt and holding up, forks rebuilt and holding oil, rider hanging on and trying not to look too possessed with the wall to wall grinning.

    Crank was ground and remetalled less than 200 miles ago, so I'm being very gentle at the moment, which is really annoying due to the 'flat spot' when running around 2,500 rpm. Must need a little tinkering, but I'd rather ride and get to know the bike again rather then have it laid up with the carbs in pieces. I will of course sort this in the long term after a few miles are under the wheels

              me too.just did carbies and front forks and brakes.progressive springs as well as fork brace tkats.rode to work today good feeling.

                Did my 1st 50km on mine this week... fork seals still leaking, got new ones on the shelf, just don't have enuff time to install them.

                The famous camchain tensioner is leaking... gotta check the middle drive... got new oil seal and all new bearings in there.

                Not legal yet... would need new exhaust and tires. They have lotsa meat on them, but they're bout 10 years old.

                Tell me sth bout carbs... when backing off the throttle, there's lotsa crackling from the exhaust... too lean or too rich... fuel level too low or too high in the carbs? (my guess is too lean).

                Pulls XSellent from 2-4000 rpm (no flat spot)... got new crank bearings, don't want to ruin them till they get settled in there.

                So, there is yet another XS on the road.... 78E that is. A black one. With all new bearings, seals, great compression and two new valves and a rider deprived of bout 2000$ for.... erm... restoration.... repairs... whatever.

                    Really nice to hear that others have got their XS's running and headed in the right direction.

                    Hey Strom - excellent to hear progress after reading about all the work and fault finding you've put in over the last few months. Jim in Oz too with his RH - I think we had our first rides to work on our newly roadworthy XS11's on the same morning - just different sides of the planet!

                    My XS has been the butt of friends jokes and a heavy thing I chain other bikes to in the garage for far too long. Good feeling knowing it's finally on the road. - Not perfectly sorted - but now a rolling project
