CAD...that doesn't stand for Cut Away Drawing does it??
Sorry, but I've never seen one posted here anyways? One the Yamaha site they have lots of exploded views, but again no specific CAD type drawings, possibly since these were made before personal computers?? I've seen just a few dimensional drawings of the VALVES showing grind angles and sizes, etc., but that's it!!

I believe by CAD he means "Computer Aided Drafting".
I'm a CAD man, steves. I have never seen one, but I will gladly search my resources to see what I can come up with. What level of detail are you hoping for?I know this, because Tyler knows this.

Hmmmm...
You think they'd mind here at work if I plopped a motor onto my desk this winter for reference and drew one up??
I'd be interested in one also if you find it. 3D would be awesome.

Well, no luck finding anything worth mentioning in any of my usual hunting grounds. I wonder what might be buried in an archive somewhere if someone were to ask the right person at Yamaha.I know this, because Tyler knows this.

In '79 we were using Commodore PET computers, my first experience with Cadd was around '82 and many firms I deal with didn't really get into it till the later '80s.
Don't know how advanced Yamaha was in '79 but even if they did drawings in Cadd back then, trying to find a platform or software that will open them would be a challenge.
The guy I talked to about the serial numbers and production runs for our bikes told me that they didn't have any computer records from back then.Ernie

There's nothing like that in the manual for the engine itself. The best I've seen is that cutaway T.C. posted.

3d cad model
not really related to what your after but.
I plan on drawing my 1978 xs . complete with bolts , wires and hoses.
I have already started with the wheels. I have seen other 3d models of the bike but no one to contact for the cad.. I have searched for 2 years so im doing it myself. Ill start with what i have.. then modify it for what i want to do..
i figure its going to take me 6 months or more to complete.. i just dont have the time to do it all at once. If there is a need for this model stay in touch with me. tarmacsports@hotmail.com
i have read this forum and do not know how to post a new post.
i have been a guest for a year?? say what ? why? i have been on this forum for over 3 years. then my name completely disappeared. and had to sign up with a new one.1978 E XS1100 purchased for =$600.00
crap load of time spent modifying it = Priceless
My bike has the XS motor but can't really call it XS11
(or at least it still looks like the XS motor)
it has about 50% of the frame left from the XS bike

I had to do that with some aero surfaces in Pro-E. Made splines and nurbs from the data and swept the surfaces from there.
