carb upkeep

Clyde is running just f-i-n-e ! but as a maintanence upkeep for the carb should i add a carb cleaner to the fuel once in a while? sea foam,gumout? anyone ?

Seafoam you could add once in a while as a nice preventive gesture.
My only advice would be... that if you're gonna let the bike sit for a few months, drain the float bowls and let the carbs sit dry.
No evaporating gas... no gum or varnish that way.

First thing is get some inline filters. If your gonna let it sit with out cranking for more than 1 week keep a fuel stabilizer in the gas. I run marvel mystery oil regularly. Keeps everything nice and clean and conditions seals and seats. And no chance of gas going bad any time soon. I also crank it and let it warm up every 2-3 days. If you know its gonna sit even a week or 2 drain the bowls. There meant to run, not sit around.

But once there adjusted right and ran on a regular basis, they should be reletivly trouble free.
When they sit the gas evaporates from the carbs drying out the seals, leaving deposits, and gum. All it takes is to dry out a couple times and sudden little things pop up. Needles stick or don't fully seat, floats don't move as freely, rough idle, carbs spit back, and all making them seem nightmarish.

In the 100k miles I have been running my 'F', I have never had problems with my carbs getting gummed up. Once they are set up, they seem to stay working fine. My bike sits for several months during the winter. I try to keep the tank at least 1/2 full. I do try to run it up and down the street a couple of times once or twice during the winter.

I don't seem to have much problems with gas evaporating. It could be because of the humidity in my area, particularly in the winter.

I can go out to my bike at anytime, pull the choke out all the way, tap the starter button and she comes alive.

I do like to run a tank of Chevron gas every once in a while. Their Techrolene(sp?) use to be good for carbs. Not sure if it still is.
