  • XS generator on an XJ1100 system

OK - so I got a used generator/stator/cover to fix my XJ1100 non-charging problem. It connected well, though the XS wiring has a yellow wire along with the three white ones. I spliced in the three white ones to my system - now charging at 14.5 volts.

The question is - that yellow wire from the XS cabling - is thaqt required to be connected on an XJ1100 - or does the xj regulator handle regulating the charging and the yellow wire can just be capped off?

    Thanks for any ideas!

    IIRC...

The yellow wire is fitted to early XS models and feeds the RLU or Headlamp relay... It provides the "engine running" supply that turns the headlight on...

Later models have an additional wire within the harness, which connects to a built-in rectifier diode and then to the Headlight Relay... Same system, different solution...

If you have the later (XJ) harness then the yellow wire should be capped (insulated)
