  • How much play in the drive line should you have

In addition to replacing my inner guts of the tranny, I am wondering, when in gear, how much should the rear tire move.

How much slack should the drive line have.

I am borrowing a lift from a friend and pulling the rear tire this weekend and greasing up the splines in the shaft and want to make sure that I do not need to replace any of those parts.

    Hey Dvigue,

There's a fair amount of SLOP in the drivetrain, from the tranny, the middle gear, the final drive, etc.! Main thing is to inspect the teeth on the splines for rounding off, vs. nice square edges. The wheel can rotate 1/2" or so. There was a recent post by Jerry about his totally destroyed drive shaft splines, complete with photos.

Yep I find mine has a lot of slop when on and off the throttle. I have no idea if this is normal. I have not had the back end apart yet.
