    MadMax-im,
Sorry to hear about your back. If sitting down relieves the pain I think what the doctor orders is a day off and a good long ride!

XSPastor...this has been progressively getting worse over the past 2 weeks...i can sit all day nearly pain free, but if I'm on my feet for more than 5 mins..it all comes right back and the longer I try to put up with it the worse it will get.I am able to ride ok which I have been doing...needless to say that helps me to feel a little better.

        Hey BNE,

Well, I hope having you help me FLIP MadMax didn't cause you to blow out your back?? When a disc ruptures, depending on where....but usually towards the back spine vs. towards the belly, the nucleus propulsus....the cushiony material that's inside the cartilagenous disc gets squished out thru the crack/rupture.

If you look at a diagram of the spine from the side, it makes a nice "S" type curve, and the posterior edges of the vertebrae are squished closer together in the lower back region where the spine curves as it joins the hip section. Standing causes the lower back curve to be the most which can squish the "stuff" out against the nerves in the spine causing pain. When you sit, the hips rotate forward, and the lower "S" curve of the back is actually straightened somewhat which relieves the compression on the vertebrae and disc, which can allow the "stuff" to regress back away from the nerves relieving the pain.

Sounds like you need to get to a Doctor, depending on your insurance, possibly your Primary Care Doctor first, may order X-rays or CT-scan to check for arthritic changes and obvious damage or misalignment of the vertebrae. Then he may send you to a Specialist..either Orthopod, or Neuro. When it involves the BACK and spinal column, I HIGHLY suggest requesting the NEUROSurgeon. Orthopods are good with arms and legs and such, but for my money, I want someone who has trained specifically for the care of the nerves!! THEY DON'T GROW BACK!

Also, be aware of IF you start experiencing any pain radiating down one of your legs, or a lack of sensation/numbness, GET to a DOCTOR quickly! The compression of the nerves in the spine FIRST cause damage to the outer layers which are the SENSORY nerves, but as the compression continues, it goes deeper and will eventually reach the inner MOTOR nerves which are the ones that CONTROL the muscles, and loss or damage of those can lead to loss of control of the legs!

Physical therapy and Chiropracty "MAY" be options depending on what is found. Some folks have degenerating bones, and so under stress they break/crumble and allow misalignment of the back bones. I had an injury 10 years ago, my bones were in good shape, just a herniated disc, so I opted for surgery, just a basic laminectomy, no fusion of the discs required. I can run for miles....if I want to, lift weights, etc.. But other folks with bad bones sometimes don't do as well with surgery, or require fusions of the bones, etc.!

          Bad Back

Being a moldmaker translates into BAD BACK. I know what you are going through Ben. I had problems this year right after the waterfowling season was over. Comes from laying on the frozen ground while playing and lifting things while working. Went to family doc and he got me into therapy. Figured what's this going to help? By the time the sadistic gal was done with me my back was better than ever. When ever it flares up on me now I just do the excersises and it gets better. Hope that's all you need instead of a new zipper Good luck!

            Bad back.

Hey..Hey. I know first hand about a bad back. Had a lumbar laminectomy (sp)..number 5, I think it was, had a herniated disc. Huh...street fighting. Anyway if you try physical therapy, get the e-stim machine. (short for electrical stimulation.) It works! O', and drink lots of WATER!! Cells won't stetch much or do anything without their required WATER. I hope this helps.
